At Least Five Killed, 29 Injured in Quetta Explosion

QUETTA: An explosion on Sariab Road in Quetta resulted in the deaths of at least five individuals and left 29 others wounded, a spokesperson from Civil Hospital confirmed on Tuesday night.

The explosion, which occurred near Shahwani Stadium, is being described by authorities as likely a suicide attack, according to a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) official. Investigators are currently on-site collecting evidence to determine the exact nature of the blast.

Pakistan has experienced a notable increase in terrorist incidents since 2021, particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. A recent report from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) revealed that during June alone, the country suffered 78 terrorist attacks, resulting in approximately 100 fatalities.

Among those killed in June were 53 security personnel, 39 civilians, six militants, and two members of local peace committees. The month also saw 189 injuries, with security forces accounting for the majority.

The ongoing counter-terrorism operations include targeted measures in KP’s Bajaur district, where security forces have successfully eliminated a number of militants. Earlier this month, authorities also killed 47 Indian-backed militants attempting to infiltrate from Afghanistan during separate operations in Zhob district, Balochistan.

Pakistan remains committed to combating terrorism and protecting its citizens, with law enforcement agencies continuing their efforts to dismantle militant networks across the country.
