ISLAMABAD: The United States has begun delivering humanitarian assistance to flood-affected regions in Pakistan, with the first of six scheduled flights arriving on Friday. This aid mission is part of the US Army Central Command’s disaster relief support. Aid Handed Over to Pakistan Army for Distribution.
The first shipment was officially handed over to Pakistani authorities by the US Chargé d’Affaires. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the handover, stating that the relief package includes essential items such as tents, power generators, and water extraction units. These supplies are being directed to Pakistan Army-operated flood relief camps for distribution to families displaced by the flooding. ISPR also conveyed Pakistan’s appreciation for the timely assistance, acknowledging the US government and military’s support during this critical period.
In parallel with the aid delivery, a US delegation visited Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC). The delegation was led by Natalie Baker, US Chargé d’Affaires, alongside representatives from US Central Command’s Disaster Response Group.
Baker commended Pakistan’s disaster management systems, referring to NDMA’s approach as a regional benchmark. She reiterated the United States’ ongoing support, including contributions from American experts and humanitarian organizations.
Lieutenant General Patrick Frank of US Central Command highlighted the importance of joint efforts and praised NDMA’s preparedness and proactive planning. He expressed interest in expanding collaboration through joint training exercises aimed at disaster risk reduction.Also present was Ivanna Vuwar, a disaster response specialist from the US Department of State for Asia, who discussed long-term strategies with Pakistani officials. The talks covered climate resilience, disaster readiness, and mitigating the environmental impacts of climate change.
NDMA’s leadership showcased the NEOC’s technological capabilities, including advanced early warning systems, and emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing its disaster management infrastructure.
