D.I.KHAN: A devastating road accident in the Dhanasar area of Dera Ismail Khan on Friday resulted in the deaths of 11 people from a single family, marking one of the region’s most tragic incidents in recent memory.
The fatal crash occurred when a passenger vehicle, en route from Khanozai in Balochistan to Dera Ismail Khan, lost control due to a brake malfunction while navigating a steep section of road.
Initial reports indicate that the vehicle veered off course after the brakes failed, crashing in the rugged Dhanasar terrain. The impact killed seven passengers instantly, including five women, one man, and a child. Rescue 1122 teams arrived swiftly at the scene, recovering the bodies and initiating relief efforts.
While seven were pronounced dead on-site, four other critically injured passengers were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital via private vehicles, where they later succumbed to their injuries. All 11 victims belonged to the same extended family, intensifying the scale of the tragedy.
Three individuals — identified as Darya Khan, Ahmed, and a 10-year-old child named Yousuf — survived with injuries. They were administered emergency medical care on the spot by Rescue 1122 before being moved to the hospital, where their condition was later declared stable.
Rescue officials confirmed that all bodies were transferred to the hospital after fulfilling medico-legal formalities. Of the deceased, four were transported by local volunteers, while Rescue 1122 ambulances carried the rest. The entire rescue and recovery operation was completed efficiently under difficult circumstances.
Authorities have launched an inquiry into the incident, focusing on the vehicle’s mechanical condition and road safety measures in the area. The tragedy has reignited calls for stricter vehicle inspections and improved emergency response infrastructure in remote regions.
