DG ISPR emphasizes taxation, governance, and Kashmir’s Future during talk in Pallandri

RAWALPINDI: A video clip featuring Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), addressing university students in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, has gained widespread attention on social media.

The event took place on September 15th in Pallandri tehsil of AJK, attracting more than 1,000 students and faculty members from various universities. During the interactive session, Gen Sharif responded to numerous questions concerning governance, protests, and the prospects of Kashmir.

When asked about the political unrest associated with the Awami Action Committee, Lt Gen Sharif clarified that Azad Kashmir already has a robust political framework. He highlighted visible advancements in education, healthcare, and infrastructure across the region. Emphasizing the importance of revenue collection, he stated, “If the government doesn’t collect taxes, how will it sustain salaries and public services?” He further pointed out that over 30% of Azad Kashmir’s population is employed in government roles.

The DG ISPR also acknowledged that peaceful protests are a fundamental democratic right but warned that disruptions can harm the economy. He reminded the audience of Kashmir’s abundant natural resources and potential. Recalling historical figures, he mentioned that Allama Muhammad Iqbal, who envisioned Pakistan, also had roots in Kashmir.

Lt Gen Sharif emphasized the significant contribution of Kashmiris to Pakistan’s armed forces, noting that many officers and soldiers hail from the region. He reaffirmed the popular slogan linked to the Kashmiri cause: “Kashmir banay ga Pakistan” (Kashmir will become Pakistan), underscoring the region’s vital role in the country’s future.
