Pakistan, Afghanistan extend ceasefire for another day

ISLAMABAD: The temporary ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan has been extended for another day. The extension came after the truce was set to expire at 6 pm on Friday.

According to diplomatic sources, any further continuation of the ceasefire will depend on Afghanistan’s seriousness in addressing Pakistan’s security concerns.

Islamabad has made it clear that cross-border terrorism will no longer be tolerated and that the use of Afghan soil for hostile activities against Pakistan or neighboring countries remains unacceptable.

Pakistan has also expressed deep reservations over the presence and operations of banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) groups inside Afghanistan.

The initial ceasefire had been agreed upon at the request of the Afghan Taliban, and Pakistan fully respected the arrangement. However, diplomatic sources noted that violations by Afghan forces continued during the truce.

Efforts are reportedly ongoing through diplomatic channels to prevent further escalation, but officials in Islamabad have reiterated that Pakistan reserves the right to respond firmly to any act of aggression or cross-border attack.
