ISLAMABAD: The Federal Cabinet has approved the ban on Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP). The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during which the decision to ban the organization was finalized.
According to sources, the cabinet has issued instructions to the Federal Ministry of Interior to initiate the procedural process for enforcing the ban.It is noted that the Punjab government had sent a reference to the Ministry of Interior a week ago seeking to ban TLP.
During today’s cabinet meeting, the Ministry of Interior submitted a summary recommending the ban under Section 11B1 of the Anti-Terrorism Act. The summary stated that TLP should be prohibited for making hate speeches, as the organization is involved in sectarian extremism and violence, and has been detrimental to international relations.
The charge sheet highlighted that TLP is involved in violence against minorities, inciting mob violence, damaging private and public property, and participating in weapons manufacturing. It also accused TLP of sectarian violence during Muharram in Sheikhupura and Mianwali, which resulted in 70 injuries and 5 deaths.
According to the charge sheet, recent protests by TLP have resulted in six injuries, one police officer martyred, and 47 police officers injured, some of whom have been permanently disabled.
