Pakistan, Iran sign MoUs to enhance media collaboration

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran have formalized several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at boosting cooperation within the media industry. 

The signing ceremony was attended by Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, Iran Broadcasting Vice President Ahmad Norozi, and Fatima Sheikh, Executive Director of Pakistan Television (PTV). During the event, agreements were signed between Pakistan Television (PTV) and Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), as well as between the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and Iran’s media regulatory body.

In addition, partnerships were established between Iranian media organizations and three private Pakistani institutions. Minister Tarar presented tokens of appreciation to members of the Iranian delegation and emphasized that media collaboration between Pakistan and Iran would serve to strengthen bilateral relations and foster closer connections between their peoples. He highlighted the significance of Iranian President Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Pakistan, beginning with his homage at the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal in Lahore a symbol of the enduring brotherhood between the two nations.

Tarar also reflected on Pakistan’s consistent support for Iran during challenging times and praised the resilience of the Iranian people on the global stage. He expressed optimism that these media agreements would translate into tangible results, further reinforcing the bilateral relationship.Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghaddam stated that Iran-Pakistan relations are entering a new, more robust phase. He appreciated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s backing and noted that President Pezeshkian’s visit marked a fresh chapter in the countries’ diplomatic ties.

IRIB World Service Vice President Ahmad Norozi acknowledged Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and revealed plans for a proposed film series on Allama Iqbal, aimed at fostering cultural cooperation. He also announced initiatives for Iranian media to provide training programs and international workshops for Pakistani journalists and media professionals.

Norozi praised the dedication of journalists, recalling instances where IRIB staff continued their reporting despite wartime challenges. Tarar concluded by stating that these agreements would elevate Pakistan-Iran relations. He also highlighted upcoming joint Urdu-Persian productions focusing on Allama Iqbal, which aim to inspire youth with his messages of self-awareness, knowledge, and action.
