Punjab enhances security measures amid rising terror threats

LAHORE: The Punjab Home Department has elevated the security level across the entire province in response to recent terrorist incidents in South Waziristan and Islamabad, officials announced on Tuesday.

All districts have been instructed to rigorously follow security protocols, with special emphasis on safeguarding high-risk, crowded, and strategic locations. This decision follows similar steps taken by neighboring provinces—Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh—who have also strengthened their security arrangements after recent attacks.

The provincial police leadership, including the Inspector General of Punjab, CCPO Lahore, RPOs, CPOs, and DPOs, have been directed to adopt a more vigilant stance. Additionally, commissioners, deputy commissioners, and emergency services across Punjab have received high-alert notifications.

Authorities highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts and proactive security measures to mitigate possible threats from extremist groups. Ensuring the safety of citizens and their property remains the primary focus of the provincial government.

Sources confirmed that security personnel are increasing checkpoints, patrols, and surveillance operations at public venues, educational institutions, and other vulnerable sites. The public has been urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to authorities.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has also placed its security forces on high alert following recent terrorist incidents, including an attack in Islamabad and another targeting the Cadet College in Wana, South Waziristan.

The IGP of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued urgent directives to all RPOs and senior officials to reinforce security protocols across the province. Special attention has been directed toward safeguarding schools, courts, law enforcement offices, and critical installations, with instructions for continuous vigilance and intensified monitoring to prevent further threats.

Field officers have been tasked with maintaining strict oversight over sensitive departments, judicial complexes, and security checkpoints to ensure maximum preparedness against potential terrorist activities.
