RAWALPINDI: In a significant development, security sources revealed that Field Marshal Asim Munir was directly involved in overseeing the operation at Cadet College Wana following the attack by Afghan militants. The operation, which successfully thwarted the assault, was carried out with meticulous planning and swift action.
Field Marshal Munir provided real-time guidance to the security forces, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the teachers and students, who are considered invaluable national assets. The sources confirmed that the Army Chief personally directed the operation, ensuring that every measure was taken to protect the lives of those trapped inside.
Colonel Muhammad Tahir, the commanding officer in charge of the mission, detailed the events of November 10 when five Afghan extremists launched an assault on the college. He explained that the terrorists aimed to target the institution an emblem of education and progress in South Waziristan—in an effort to demoralize the local community.
The Colonel recounted that one suicide bomber detonated himself during the attack, while other militants attempted to breach the main gate and hostage students. Thanks to the prompt response of security forces, both the terrorists’ attack and their malicious intentions were thwarted.
“Special forces confined the terrorists to a specific area to ensure student safety,” Colonel Tahir stated. “By around 10:30 pm, following a comprehensive operation, all militants had been eliminated.”
The brave teachers and cadets, rescued from the chaos, expressed unwavering resolve and pride in their armed forces. They lauded the Pakistan Army’s dedication, describing soldiers as a protective shield that endured with them for over 24 hours during the ordeal.One cadet recalled that the attack occurred just as they were preparing for a drill competition at sunset. “We immediately realized that these were enemies of education trying to stop us from learning,” he said.
Another student praised the swift evacuation efforts by the soldiers: “They got us out of danger quickly and kept us safe. Nothing can stop us from pursuing education, no matter what these enemies do.”
A teacher added that during the explosion, the students remained engaged in their drill practice. “We told them to stay calm and trust the army’s timely response,” he said. “Their actions turned what could have been a tragedy into a failed attack.”
