Australian Paralympic gold medalist Paige Greco dies at 28

WEB DESK: Australian Paralympic gold medallist Paige Greco, who passed away suddenly on Sunday at the age of 28, has been remembered for her humility, generosity, and the joy she brought to her teammates and those around her.

According to South Australian authorities, Paige died at her home in Adelaide following a medical emergency. Her family has requested privacy during this difficult time.

Paige’s mother, Natalie Greco, shared heartfelt words about her daughter, describing her as the center of their family’s love and pride. She reflected on Paige’s kindness, determination, and warmth that shone through daily, bringing happiness and pride to their lives. While the family is devastated by her passing, they take immense pride in her achievements and the way she represented Australia.

Natalie also expressed gratitude for the support from friends, teammates, and all those connected to Paige, highlighting how she treasured the bonds formed through her sporting journey. The family is now focusing on navigating their grief in privacy.

Born with cerebral palsy, Paige initially pursued running before shifting her focus to cycling, where she found remarkable success. Among her many achievements, she claimed Australia’s first gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics in the women’s C1–3 3,000m individual pursuit and remained a strong presence on international podiums throughout her career.

Despite facing health setbacks that prevented her from qualifying for Paris 2024, Paige made a return to elite competition this year. Just last month, she represented Australia at the Para Track World Championships in Brazil.
