RAWALPINDI: Sri Lanka have defeated Pakistan in a thrilling contest by six runs to claim the spot in the tri-nation series final on Thursday at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Sri Lanka batted first and scored 184 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their 20 overs. Notable performances came from Kamil Mendis, who scored 76, and Kushal Mendis, who contributed 40. Dhananjaya de Silva remained unbeaten on 17.
Pakistan’s bowling efforts saw Abrar Ahmed take 2 wickets, while Mohammad Waseem Jr. and Saim Ayub each took one wicket.
In the Pakistani squad, two changes were made today, with Salman Mairza and Abrar Ahmed replacing Naseem Shah and Usman Qadir. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka retained the same playing XI that secured a victory against Zimbabwe, with no changes.
It was crucial for Sri Lanka to win this match, as a victory would secure their place in the final against Pakistan scheduled for November 29. Conversely, if Sri Lanka loses, Pakistan and Zimbabwe will compete in the series final.
