Suparco predicts rajab moon visibility in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has released its astronomical forecast for the sighting of the moon marking the beginning of Rajab-ul-Murajjab 1447 Hijri.

According to Suparco’s calculations, the new moon is set to be formed on December 20, 2025, at 6:43am. Astronomical data further shows that by sunset on December 21, the moon will be 35 hours and 26 minutes old.

In coastal regions of Pakistan, the gap between sunset and moonset is expected to be approximately 63 minutes, a factor that significantly improves visibility. Experts believe that under these conditions, the moon is likely to be visible with the naked eye on the evening of December 21.

Based on these observations, the first day of Rajab-ul-Murajjab is expected to begin on December 22, 2025.

However, Suparco emphasized that the official confirmation of the Islamic month will be announced by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, following the receipt and verification of moon sighting reports from across the country.
