Pakistan welcomes new year with over Rs10 per liter reduction in fuel prices

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a significant decrease in fuel prices across the country, providing relief to consumers as the New Year begins. Effective from January 1, 2026, the price of petrol has been reduced by more than Rs10 per liter for the upcoming two weeks.

According to a statement issued by the Petroleum Division, the revised price of petrol has been set at Rs253.17 per liter, valid until January 15. This reduction of Rs10.28 per liter follows the recommendations made by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

The Petroleum Division highlighted that the decision was made after careful review of OGRA’s suggestions to ensure fair pricing. Additionally, the price of high-speed diesel has been decreased to Rs257.08 per liter, reflecting a cut of Rs8.57 per liter.

In the previous review period, the government had lowered diesel prices by Rs14 per liter but maintained the petrol rate unchanged. The latest adjustments aim to provide financial relief to consumers amid changing global fuel markets.
