NDMA issued severe cold wave alert for Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a severe cold wave alert for northern regions and northern Balochistan, warning of intensified cold conditions and related health and travel risks.

The National Emergency Operation Center reported a prolonged spell of extreme cold expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pothohar region, and northern Balochistan.

A sharp drop in temperatures is anticipated in Quetta, Ziarat, and Kalat. Residents are urged to prepare for freezing conditions. The NDMA highlighted increased risks of respiratory illnesses, especially for children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing conditions, as well as potential crop damage impacting agriculture.

Dense fog in plains during early mornings may reduce visibility and pose road safety risks. Citizens are advised to stay informed via official updates, take precautions for health and safety, and drive carefully. Authorities have been instructed to remain vigilant for emergencies arising from the ongoing cold wave.
