WEB DESK: In a groundbreaking political shift, the top leadership positions in Cambridge have been filled by members of the Pakistani American community.

Following the January 5 elections, Sanbal Siddiqui, originally from Karachi, secured her third consecutive term as mayor of Cambridge City for 2026–2027. Meanwhile, Burhan Azim, hailing from Burewala, made history as the city’s youngest-ever deputy mayor.

Sanbal Siddiqui, a legal professional with deep roots in US politics, first joined the Cambridge City Council in 2017. She previously served as mayor from 2020 to 2024 and has now earned the distinction of becoming the first Muslim mayor and the first Asian woman in Cambridge to achieve three successive terms.
