Karachi: SSGCL announces 24-hour gas suspension for Industries on January 11

KARACHI: Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) has issued a notice for a 24-hour gas shutdown for industrial customers in Karachi, scheduled to begin on January 11.

In a social media update, the utility explained that gas supply to industrial facilities will be halted from 8:00 AM on January 11 to 8:00 AM on January 12. The move aims to ensure continuous and better pressure supply for residential and commercial consumers, especially amid heightened demand caused by the ongoing cold spell in the city.

The company emphasized that the regular daily load-shedding for residential and commercial users from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM will proceed as usual. Consumers facing low gas pressure are advised to report issues through the 24-hour helpline at 1199.

SSGCL also called on media outlets and the public to share accurate information and clarified that last week’s false reports led to unnecessary confusion among residents.

Previously, SSGC clarified via its Facebook page that no official announcement had been made regarding gas cuts for Karachi’s residential consumers. The company dismissed circulating rumors about a complete gas shutdown for households, describing such claims as entirely false and unverified. The routine night-time gas load management from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM remains in effect, the company reaffirmed.

It is important to note that recent social media rumors suggesting a gas suspension from Sunday 8:00 AM to the following Monday 8:00 AM have been proven false following SSGCL’s clarification. All reports claiming a two-day gas shutdown in Karachi are misleading and without basis.
