ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Technology, Shaza Fatima, has announced that Pakistan’s 5G spectrum auction is scheduled during Ramadan, with plans to finalize the process by late February.
She shared that the auction’s completion is anticipated to enhance the performance of existing 3G and 4G services within three to four months. Furthermore, the government aims to roll out 5G services in major cities within six months following the auction.
Shaza Fatima also mentioned that telecom companies have welcomed updates regarding the 5G spectrum auction information memorandum. She explained that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is currently engaging stakeholders in discussions on service quality standards and rollout guidelines included in the memorandum.
Telecom operators are preparing for the upcoming auction, with a three-week timeframe provided for their feedback. The minister noted that these consultations will wrap up with the finalization of the information memorandum in the first week of February.
