Sindh government allocates Rs21 billion for Karachi road and infrastructure upgrades

KARACHI: The Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has sanctioned over Rs21 billion to upgrade Karachi’s roads and infrastructure.

A key meeting focusing on the city’s road rehabilitation was chaired by the chief minister. Participants included Provincial Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, Chairman P&D Najam Shah, alongside senior representatives from the Local Government Department and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

During the discussions, a total of Rs21.53 billion was allocated for improving Karachi’s infrastructure. Enhancing road conditions aims to smooth traffic flow and boost economic activities, aligning with the Sindh government’s commitment to public convenience and urban safety.

The chief minister additionally approved a special grant of Rs13 billion specifically earmarked for road repair. Mayor Murtaza Wahab highlighted that 409 deteriorated roads across the metropolis require urgent attention. The chief minister’s spokesperson confirmed the allocation of financial aid for 24 Town Municipal Corporations to support these efforts.

Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah detailed plans for patchwork repairs on 400 roads across Karachi’s seven districts, while nine roads are set for complete reconstruction at an estimated cost of Rs12.57 billion, covering sewerage and water supply improvements.

Furthermore, KMC has been tasked with the restoration of 26 major thoroughfares. Additional projects worth Rs8.53 billion have been approved, covering roads, drainage systems, and streetlights.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah emphasized the importance of transparency, quality, and timely completion for all initiatives. He has instructed the immediate release of funds through the Finance Department to ensure rapid progress on these essential developments.
