PESHAWAR: Authorities have identified the suicide bomber responsible for the deadly attack at a wedding ceremony in Dera Ismail Khan, following the emergence of CCTV footage from the scene, officials confirmed on Saturday.
According to sources, the attacker was a 21-year-old man identified as Abdul Rehman. Surveillance footage shows him entering the wedding venue draped in a white shawl, allowing him to move unnoticed among the guests during the celebrations.
The video reveals that while a traditional tribal dance was underway, the suspect quietly exited the main gathering and headed toward a back room where several local elders were seated. Shortly after entering the room, he set off the explosives he was carrying.
The powerful blast caused the roof of the room to cave in, resulting in the deaths of the attacker and five others. A number of people sustained injuries in the explosion.
Officials said the attack occurred during the wedding ceremony of the nephew of Noor Alam Mehsud, head of the local peace committee.
Police have registered a case and launched a comprehensive investigation. Security agencies are continuing efforts to trace the network behind the attack and to prevent similar incidents in the region.
