Uzbek president to visit Pakistan on Feb 5 for two days

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will make an official visit to Pakistan on February 5-6 at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The visit aims to strengthen the growing bilateral relationship between the two nations.

During this two-day trip, President Mirziyoyev, accompanied by a high-level delegation including ministers and business leaders, will meet with President Asif Ali Zardari and hold official talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Additionally, he will participate in the Pakistan-Uzbekistan Business Forum.

The discussions are expected to cover a wide range of topics, including trade, energy, defense, education, and regional connectivity, with an emphasis on exploring new avenues for cooperation and enhancing people-to-people exchanges, the Foreign Office stated.

This visit marks the second time President Mirziyoyev has traveled to Pakistan, reflecting the momentum in bilateral relations driven by shared history, faith, and mutual aspirations for regional peace and development.

Last year, Pakistan and Uzbekistan committed to increasing bilateral trade from $400 million to $2 billion, while also exploring avenues for investment, improved connectivity, and tourism during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Tashkent.

Both leaders reiterated their support for the Trans-Afghan Railway project, which aims to link Central Asia with South Asia, with Prime Minister Shehbaz describing it as a transformative initiative for regional trade and connectivity.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also expressed gratitude for Uzbekistan’s hospitality and highlighted the deep-rooted bonds between the two countries, emphasizing that ongoing efforts are yielding positive results in trade and investment, fostering a partnership rooted in shared goals.
