LAHORE: Australian cricket star Steve Smith has set a new record as the highest-paid player in the history of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The newly formed franchise, Sialkot Stallions, secured Smith’s services for the upcoming 11th season of PSL. The club announced the signing on social media, marking Smith’s debut in this edition of the league.
Smith was signed directly by the Stallions for a hefty fee of 140 million PKR, making him the costliest player ever in PSL history.
In the player retention announcements for PSL 11, Peshawar Zalmi kept Babar Azam, Lahore Qalandars retained Shaheen Afridi, and Islamabad United re-signed Shadab Khan for 70 million PKR each.
This season also features a major shift in the player selection process, transitioning from the traditional draft system to an auction-based format. Under the new rules, teams are allowed to retain only one player per category, with the rest of the squad-building happening through auctions.
