ISLAMABAD: A devastating blast occurred at the Shia mosque, Qasr-e-Khadijatul Kubra, in Islamabad during Friday prayers.
According to police sources, the attacker was stopped at the gate and detonated himself, claiming the lives of at least 31 individuals and leaving many others injured.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have strongly condemned the blast and directed a complete inquiry into the matter. The prime minister has also directed Health Minister Mustafa Kamal to personally supervise the medical treatment of the injured at the hospitals.
Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The prime minister ordered a full investigation into the incident and directed that the perpetrators be identified immediately.
