ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly convened today and unanimously passed a resolution honoring the Armed Forces for their unmatched sacrifices in the battle against terrorism.
Introduced by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, the resolution affirmed the unwavering resolve to ensure that the sacrifices made by the martyrs will not be forgotten. It highlighted the nation’s steadfast support for the armed forces in their ongoing efforts to combat terrorism.
The resolution commended the military’s professionalism, courage, and dedication, emphasizing full backing for their mission to secure national stability, uphold security, and maintain peace throughout the country.
Addressing the Assembly, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif criticized recent remarks made by Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai concerning the Pakistan Army. Labeling the comments as highly irresponsible and an intentional attempt to disparage a national institution, he firmly rejected such assertions.
The Defence Minister asserted that the Pakistan Army represents a national identity, embodying a unified federation with representation from all provinces. Citing statistics to underline the inclusive nature of the armed forces, he emphasized its composition reflects the whole of Pakistan, encompassing diverse provinces and minority communities.
He further highlighted the immense sacrifices of the military in the fight against terrorism. Over the past five years alone, 3,141 personnel—including officers, junior commissioned officers, and soldiers—have laid down their lives for the nation. He noted that these brave martyrs hailed from every region of the country.
Khawaja Asif denounced the Opposition Leader’s remarks as a blatant disregard for these sacrifices, calling them an affront to the memory of those who have given their lives in service of national security.
Despite acknowledging the esteemed nature of the Opposition Leader’s position, he underlined that statements of such nature undermine the respect associated with that role.
He concluded by reiterating that the war against terrorism transcends provincial or regional divides, describing it as a unified struggle that involves the entire nation. The Defence Minister reminded everyone of their collective debt to the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for the safety and protection of Pakistan.
