D.I.KHAN: A violent assault by militants resulted in the martyrdom of four police personnel, including SHO Faheem Mumtaz, during a search operation in Wana Budh, police confirmed on Wednesday.
The operation was underway in the jurisdiction of Shaheed Nawab Police Station after authorities received intelligence indicating militant activity in the area. Without warning, militants opened fire on the police team, who responded fiercely in defense.
Among those who lost their lives were SHO Faheem Mumtaz, Constables Irfan Khan, Ghulam Subhani, and Wajahat. In the aftermath, three officers—DSP Hafiz Adnan of Paharpur Circle and ASI Tariq—suffered injuries and were rushed to the District Headquarters Teaching Hospital for urgent medical care.
A large police contingent, headed by District Police Officer Sajad Ahmed Sahebzada, arrived swiftly on the scene and launched a comprehensive search operation to track down the militants involved.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi condemned the attack in strong terms, paid homage to the fallen officers, and pledged full support to their families. He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to fight terrorism and emphasized that such cowardly acts would not weaken the spirit of law enforcement.
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also condemned the assault, lauded the bravery of the D.I. Khan police, and directed that the injured officers be given the best possible medical treatment.
Former KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur shared his grief over the incident, honoring the sacrifice of the police personnel and praying for the quick recovery of the wounded officers.
