Dar meets regional counterparts in New York, focuses on Palestine crisis

NEW YORK: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, met with senior diplomats from Syria, Indonesia, and Egypt during the high-level session of the United Nations Security Council focused on Palestine.

In his discussion with Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Ibrahim Olabi, Dar welcomed recent steps aimed at strengthening stability and national unity in Syria. He voiced optimism that continued progress would help safeguard the country’s peace, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s longstanding stance, Dar emphasized respect for international law and existing agreements, warning that breaches of such commitments threaten regional stability and should be addressed in accordance with relevant UNSC resolutions. Ambassador Olabi, in turn, thanked Pakistan for its steady support and outlined ongoing efforts toward reconciliation and stability in Syria.

During talks with Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Sugiono, both sides expressed satisfaction with the enduring and friendly relations between their countries. They discussed bilateral cooperation as well as broader regional and global issues, with particular focus on Gaza and the West Bank.

The two leaders agreed on the importance of pursuing a just and lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue in line with international law and UN resolutions. Dar also highlighted the significance of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to Pakistan in December 2025, noting that it injected fresh momentum into bilateral ties and reflected the steady growth of cooperation over the years.

In a separate meeting, Dar held consultations with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. Both ministers reviewed ongoing collaboration across various sectors and reaffirmed their commitment to close coordination. They also exchanged views on developments in Gaza and the West Bank, underscoring the necessity of upholding international law and ensuring immediate and uninterrupted humanitarian access to those in need.
