SUPARCO introduces space4 climate initiative to boost climate resilience, ISPR reports

RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has unveiled the new Space4Climate project, aiming to enhance climate resilience and proactive measures utilizing advanced space technology, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Central to this initiative is a GeoAI-powered Climate Observatory  an innovative digital hub that integrates satellite imagery, geospatial analytics, and predictive modeling to deliver practical insights for policymakers, scientists, and local communities.

This platform is designed to monitor various environmental parameters, including atmospheric pollutants (such as aerosols, SOx, NOx), greenhouse gases (like CO₂ and methane), forest cover, glaciers, coastal regions, river systems, and land utilization. It also provides real-time tracking of climate-related risks, including floods, droughts, heatwaves, rising sea levels, and glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs).

By combining satellite data with ground-based observations, the Space4Climate initiative aims to promote data-driven decision-making and sustainable development practices. This effort aligns with Pakistan’s broader climate goals and supports the country’s commitment to global environmental initiatives.
