Pakistan, Oman reinforce commitment to strengthen energy collaboration

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Oman have reaffirmed their dedication to deepening their energy partnership amid changing regional dynamics.

The pledge was made during a meeting between Pakistan’s Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik, and Omani Ambassador Fahad Bin Sulaiman Bin Khalaf Alkharusi held today in Islamabad.

Discussions focused on the shifting energy landscape in the region and potential avenues for bolstering bilateral cooperation within the energy sector. Minister Malik emphasized Pakistan’s intention to expand its energy collaborations and seek new opportunities for mutual benefit.

He highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing initiatives to diversify its energy sources and ensure reliable supply chains, especially by exploring alternative routes and sources outside the Strait of Hormuz, considering the current regional environment.

The Omani Ambassador expressed Oman’s support for Pakistan’s efforts toward energy diversification and assured that Oman is prepared to assist in strengthening Pakistan’s energy security.

Malik conveyed optimism that Oman would review Pakistan’s request for preferential energy cargo arrangements to meet its increasing energy needs. The envoy responded positively, indicating that the request would be given favorable consideration.

The talks also covered prospects for cooperation in upstream activities, including exploration and production, emphasizing the importance of expanding joint projects in oil and gas development. Additionally, it was noted that Pakistan State Oil and Oman Trading International are actively exploring options for additional oil cargo supplies to help meet Pakistan’s growing energy requirements.
