5G rollout in Pakistan delayed amid awaited software update from Apple

ISLAMABAD: The launch of 5G services in Pakistan continues to face delays despite the successful completion of the spectrum auction, as key technical requirements remain unmet.

According to sources, Apple has yet to release the necessary software update needed to enable 5G functionality on its devices, leaving iPhone users unable to access next-generation network services.

In contrast, Samsung has reportedly made progress, with its update expected to be rolled out within the next two to three weeks.

Telecom operators are actively engaging with global handset manufacturers to address the issue, while authorities are also considering government-level communication with Apple to expedite the process.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority is maintaining close coordination with all stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition to 5G services.

Experts warn that until the required software patches are released, existing smartphones will remain incompatible with 5G networks, potentially pushing back the timeline for the full-scale rollout in the country.
