Global sikh pilgrims gather in Pakistan for baisakhi celebrations

NAROWAL: Sikh pilgrims from across the world arrived at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur on Wednesday to take part in the vibrant Baisakhi festivities.

The visitors were warmly received by district officials, including DC Malik Naveed and local police authorities, with flower petals showered upon their arrival as a gesture of hospitality.

Officials highlighted that Pakistan remains a land of peace and inclusivity, noting that hosting Sikh pilgrims is a matter of pride. They emphasized that such visits help promote interfaith harmony, tolerance, and cultural exchange.

In a related development, over 2,200 Indian Sikh pilgrims also reached Gurdwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib to participate in Baisakhi rituals. The group, led by Surjeet Singh, was transported via special buses under tight security arrangements and will stay for three days.

Earlier, the pilgrims entered Pakistan through the Wagah Border, where they were welcomed by Ramesh Singh Arora and senior officials of the Evacuee Trust Property Board.

The main Baisakhi ceremony took place on April 14 at Gurdwara Panja Sahib, one of Sikhism’s most revered sites. The visiting pilgrims are scheduled to return to India on April 19.
