KARACHI: Residents of Media Town, a residential area for journalists near Hawkes Bay, have reported the theft of two solar-powered streetlight poles that were installed under directives from the Sindh chief minister.

According to locals, the incident is alarming as the thieves managed to cut down and remove entire poles fitted with solar lighting systems provided by the Sindh government. Each of the stolen poles was equipped with two solar lights, installed as part of a recent development initiative.

Residents further revealed that out of 10 poles installed during 2023–24, three have already been stolen. They expressed concern over the lack of recovery and failure to curb such incidents despite repeated occurrences.

Journalists living in the area have urged authorities, including the Sindh home minister and Karachi police leadership, to take immediate action and improve the law and order situation in the locality.
