Diesel shipment of 80 million litres arrives in Karachi from Kuwait

KARACHI: Pakistani vessel, Khairpur, has reached Karachi Port carrying around 80 million litres of diesel from Kuwait, offering some reassurance amid worries about fuel supply disruptions.

According to officials from the Karachi Port Trust, the ship completed its journey smoothly and docked in Karachi after passing through the Strait of Hormuz a few days earlier, then continuing via the Gulf of Oman. The passage through this key route came at a sensitive time, as tensions in the region have been affecting global shipping and energy flows.

Sources indicated that the vessel received special clearance from Iranian authorities to cross the Strait of Hormuz despite heightened security concerns, allowing it to proceed without delay.

The arrival of this large diesel shipment is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s fuel reserves and reduce the risk of shortages, especially as the country depends heavily on imported petroleum. Authorities have been closely watching developments in the Middle East, given their impact on energy supplies and shipping costs.

Experts note that steady fuel imports remain crucial for keeping transportation, industry, and overall economic activity running smoothly, particularly as rising insurance and freight costs continue to challenge global trade.
