Govt extends security deployment in Gilgit-Baltistan until June 14, 2026

G.BALTISTAN: Ahead of the upcoming general elections, the federal government has decided to prolong the deployment of security forces in Gilgit-Baltistan until June 14, 2026.

Sources revealed that the federal cabinet approved the continuation of the Army, Rangers, GB Scouts, and FC personnel through a formal circulation process. The interior ministry had submitted the proposal for this extension, they added.

The Gilgit-Baltistan administration had requested an extension of the current security arrangements, according to sources. As a result, the Army’s deployment has now been officially extended until mid-2026.

The deployment of the military forces in GB has been authorized under Article 245 of the Constitution. Their primary responsibilities include maintaining security, safeguarding China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, and protecting key routes such as the Karakoram Highway.
