Trump commends Pakistan’s civil, military leadership once again

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump once again praised Pakistan’s leadership, calling the country “great” and commending its senior officials for their diplomatic approach.

During a conversation with reporters, Trump described Pakistan’s prime minister and field marshal as “remarkable personalities” and acknowledged their role in promoting dialogue and stability.

The US president also claimed that “Project Freedom” was paused after consultations with Pakistani authorities. According to him, Pakistan’s leadership encouraged restraint and urged that no further action be taken while diplomatic efforts were underway.

Pakistan’s civil and military leadership has recently drawn international attention for its reported mediation efforts aimed at easing tensions between Iran and the United States.

Earlier, at the 2025 ASEAN Summit 2025 held in Kuala Lumpur, Trump had similarly praised Pakistan’s leadership, referring to the field marshal as “a good man” and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as “a great leader.”

Speaking at the summit, Trump said he had received reports of possible tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, but credited Pakistani leadership for handling the matter quickly and peacefully.

“I support peace around the world,” Trump stated, adding that trade and economic cooperation are more effective tools than conflict. He further remarked that many disputes could be resolved through stronger commercial ties and diplomacy rather than war.
