ISLAMABAD: In a move aimed at easing the burden on consumers, the government has reduced petroleum prices by Rs5 per litre under its latest fortnightly review.

According to the official notification, the price of petrol has been lowered from Rs414.78 to Rs409.78 per litre. Likewise, high-speed diesel (HSD) now costs Rs409.58 per litre after a Rs5 reduction.

Authorities stated that the adjustment was made in line with changes in global oil market trends and fluctuations in the exchange rate, which are reviewed every two weeks under the existing fuel pricing mechanism.

The latest cut is expected to benefit commuters, transport operators and businesses that have been facing rising operational costs due to expensive fuel.

Earlier, on May 9, 2026, the government had sharply increased petroleum prices. Petrol was raised by Rs14.92 per litre to Rs414.78, while high-speed diesel saw an increase of Rs15 per litre, reaching Rs414.58.

The earlier hike marked the fourth increase in fuel prices since the outbreak of the Iran conflict, which had triggered volatility in international oil markets and added pressure on domestic fuel rates.
