PESHAWAR: At least two police officers lost their lives in separate attacks on polio vaccination teams in Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday.
According to a Deputy Inspector General (DIG), unidentified assailants targeted the polio teams in the Tabbai and Dag Qila areas of Salarzai. The officers who were martyred have been identified as Qadir and Aziz.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi strongly condemned the assaults on law enforcement personnel escorting the vaccination teams. He has demanded a comprehensive investigation and a detailed report from the Inspector General of Police (IG).
In an official statement, the KP CM described the attacks as acts of cowardice against officials performing their duties for the nation. He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to thwart such malicious attempts and stressed that terrorists will not succeed in undermining the vaccination campaign.
Hostile elements often target polio teams in KP, especially in regions affected by terrorism, in an effort to disrupt the immunization drive. Earlier in January, police confirmed that four officers had been martyred in separate firing incidents by unidentified assailants within the province.
