Shehbaz Sharif forms seven-member panel to finalize budget 2026-27

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has established a seven-member special committee, led by the Finance Minister, to oversee the preparation and recommendation process for the upcoming Budget 2026-27..

The panel will be responsible for reviewing all aspects related to the upcoming fiscal plan and submitting comprehensive recommendations to the Prime Minister for approval. The committee comprises key government figures, including the Minister for Economic Affairs, Minister for Planning, Minister for Law, along with Chief Technical Adviser Musharraf Rasul and the Additional Secretary of Finance.

Sources indicate that the committee will also analyze the financial performance and needs of vital ministries such as Commerce, Power, Privatisation, and IT, as part of the budget formulation process. The insights gained will guide proposals for the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).

Furthermore, the panel has been assigned to examine ongoing legal cases involving the Power Division in international courts and to develop a financial strategy for effective legal representation abroad.

Additional responsibilities include evaluating climate support levies to fund green startups and reviewing progress reports on the government’s rightsizing efforts across various ministries.

The committee is expected to deliver its recommendations in the upcoming weeks, ahead of finalizing the budget for the fiscal year 2026-27.
