Ishaq Dar to travel New York for UN security council High-Level discussion

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is scheduled to visit New York City from May 26 to 28 to take part in an important debate at the United Nations Security Council, the Foreign Office announced.

The Foreign Office spokesperson explained that the upcoming Security Council session will center on issues of global peace and security, emphasizing the UN’s role in tackling international challenges. The debate will be conducted under China’s presidency for May 2026, with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expected to preside over the proceedings.

Pakistan has expressed its support for China’s initiative, reaffirming its commitment to the multilateral framework and the vital role of the United Nations in preserving international stability and peace.

In addition to participating in the Security Council debate, Ishaq Dar will join a meeting of the Global Governance Group of Friends on May 28. The gathering aims to discuss reforms in global governance structures and strategies to address shared international concerns.

The Foreign Office spokesperson added that the foreign minister is also likely to hold bilateral meetings with prominent world leaders and senior UN officials during his visit. Pakistan’s delegation reiterated the country’s dedication to fostering international cooperation for peace, security, and sustainable development.
