TEHRAN: Iran has rejected reports alleging that President Masoud Pezeshkian has submitted his resignation.
The denial followed claims that Pezeshkian had sent an official resignation letter to the Office of the Supreme Leader, according to a source cited by Iran International.
Responding to the reports on X, Mehdi Tabatabaei, Deputy Head of Communications at the Presidential Office, described the claims as inaccurate and part of what he called ongoing “media speculation” by certain foreign outlets.
Tabatabaei emphasized that President Pezeshkian remains committed to serving the Iranian people and will continue pursuing policies aimed at strengthening national unity and cohesion.
He also dismissed suggestions of internal divisions, saying that attempts to weaken Iran’s solidarity would ultimately fail.
Separately, Iran’s chief negotiator reiterated that no agreement with the United States would be reached unless Iran’s rights and interests are fully guaranteed.
Regional tensions have remained high since late February, when the United States and Israel carried out strikes against Iran. Tehran responded with attacks on Israeli targets and US allies in the Gulf region, while also shutting down the Strait of Hormuz.
Although a ceasefire brokered through Pakistani mediation came into effect on April 8, follow-up negotiations in Islamabad were unable to secure a long-term settlement.
