Trump warns of fresh military action against Iran after overnight strikes

ANKARA: U.S. President Donald Trump said the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iran was effectively “over,” adding that he no longer wanted to negotiate with Tehran.

Speaking to reporters after meeting NATO leaders in Ankara, Türkiye, Trump said he was dissatisfied with NATO’s stance on both Greenland and Iran.

“I don’t want to make a deal with the Iranians,” Trump said, adding that the ceasefire with Iran had also come to an end. He claimed that if Iran had possessed nuclear weapons, it would have used them, and insisted he had no intention of wasting more time in negotiations with Tehran.

The U.S. president said American forces had carried out heavy strikes against Iranian targets the previous night, warning that any future attacks by Iran would be met with a forceful response.

“Our objective is to ensure that Iran never acquires nuclear weapons,” Trump said. “We will make sure Iran remains non-nuclear. They are not good people, and they target everyone, including me.”

Comparing the Iran issue to cancer, Trump said it had to be eliminated before it spread further.

“We have to get rid of this cancer,” he said. “You know what is done with cancer—it is removed at the earliest stage. That is how I see Iran.”

Meanwhile, according to international media reports, global oil prices surged by nearly 5% after Trump’s announcement that the ceasefire with Iran had come to an end.
