ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the United Nations, emphasizing the organization’s indispensable role in addressing global challenges and promoting international cooperation.
The prime minister made these remarks during a meeting in Islamabad with Macky Sall, a candidate for the post of United Nations secretary-general.
During the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif underscored Pakistan’s firm commitment to multilateral diplomacy and expressed confidence that the next UN leadership would effectively uphold the organization’s core mandates of maintaining international peace and security, advancing sustainable development, and protecting human rights.
He also reiterated Pakistan’s continued adherence to the principles of the UN Charter, stressing the importance of implementing United Nations Security Council resolutions, respecting international law, and honoring global treaties as essential pillars for lasting peace, stability, and shared prosperity.
Macky Sall thanked Pakistan for its longstanding support of the United Nations and praised the country’s consistent contributions to UN initiatives. He also acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting dialogue and supporting international peace efforts.
