ATTOCK: A sub-inspector of the National Highways and Motorway Police lost his life on Wednesday after being struck by a dumper truck while on duty near Kamra along the GT Road, officials reported.

The officer, identified as Sub-Inspector Javed Akbar Shinwari, sustained severe injuries when the heavy vehicle collided with him during routine traffic management. He was immediately taken to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Hazro, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

According to the Motorway Police spokesperson, the driver of the dumper truck fled the scene right after the accident. However, one of the vehicle’s helpers has been detained for questioning, and authorities have launched a search operation to apprehend the driver.

Initial investigations suggest that the incident resulted from the dumper driver’s alleged reckless and negligent driving behavior.

Expressing grief over the loss, Inspector General of the National Highways and Motorway Police Sultan Ahmad Chaudhry extended heartfelt condolences to the family and paid tribute to the officer’s dedication and service. He ordered a comprehensive investigation to identify and hold accountable those responsible.

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan also mourned the officer’s death, praising his service and instructing the Motorway Police to thoroughly investigate the incident. He assured support for the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul.
