Pakistan govt clarifies petrol supply concerns

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani government has reassured the public that the country’s petrol reserves are sufficient to fulfill current demand, as discussed in the recent National Coordination and Management Council (NCMC) meeting.

During the session, officials confirmed that Pakistan’s stock of petroleum products remains adequate to meet ongoing consumption needs. Representatives from the Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) also provided an update, addressing recent worries about potential supply interruptions.

It was noted that a significant spike in petrol sales during the first half of July had sparked speculation about possible shortages. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) suggested that this increase may have been influenced by hoarding behavior, driven by expectations of future fuel price hikes.

In response, the NCMC instructed OGRA to enhance enforcement against hoarding practices and urged provincial authorities to take proactive measures. The council emphasized the importance of maintaining an uninterrupted fuel supply to ensure continuous availability for consumers nationwide.
