Heavy rains in Occupied Kashmir lead to water release into Pakistan, raising flood concerns

ISLAMABAD: In the aftermath of heavy rainfall in occupied Kashmir, India has discharged a substantial volume of floodwaters downstream towards Pakistan.

Following intense showers, Indian authorities opened all gates of the Salal Dam, releasing a large surge of water into the river system. This action has sparked fears of flooding in Pakistani regions, leading to heightened alertness in Sialkot and Wazirabad.

The Punjab Irrigation Department has reported that the water released from the Salal Dam has caused the Chenab River’s water levels to rise sharply. It is anticipated that the floodwaters will arrive in Wazirabad within the next two days, potentially causing flooding in the area.

Officials are actively monitoring the situation and have issued warnings to ensure readiness for any emergency response needed.
