MIRPUR: During a rally in Mirpur, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif committed to launching a range of development and welfare schemes for Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), should the PML-N form the next government in the region. She announced plans for electric buses in Mirpur, infrastructure upgrades, and expanded public services.
Maryam Nawaz revealed that ten electric buses had been procured for Mirpur and emphasized that the welfare programs previously introduced in Punjab would be extended to AJK. She reaffirmed Nawaz Sharif’s pledge to establish an international airport in Mirpur, expressing her confidence that this promise would be fulfilled.
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, she highlighted the strong support for PML-N evident from the large gatherings in Mirpur and Muzaffarabad ahead of the upcoming elections. Describing herself as “a daughter of Kashmir,” Maryam emphasized her family’s roots in the region and committed to its ongoing development.
While acknowledging Mirpur’s economic significance and its impressive residential infrastructure, she pointed out the need for improved roads and modern civic amenities. She also highlighted the tourism potential of Kashmir, noting that promoting this sector could boost revenue and help fund education, healthcare, and other essential services.
Maryam Nawaz outlined plans to implement programs such as the Kisan Card, Rashan Card, Safe City, and Suthra Punjab across AJK, including Mirpur and Muzaffarabad, to enhance public welfare and municipal standards.
Reflecting on Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, she credited him with transforming Pakistan into a nuclear power, alleviating energy shortages, and executing major infrastructure projects—particularly road links connecting Murree, Kohala, and Azad Kashmir. She asserted that many key development initiatives in the region had been carried out during PML-N rule.
