WEB DESK: Pakistani musician Shamoon Ismail has been featured in New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s playlist, surprising fans and highlighting the singer’s international reach.
During a recent podcast interview, Mamdani revealed his musical tastes, mentioning that he enjoys listening to Pakistani artists Shae Gill and Shamoon Ismail. He specifically praised Ismail as an outstanding rapper, sharing that his music has been a staple in his playlist for years. Mamdani also mentioned his current admiration for Ugandan duo Radio & Weasel, known for their chart-topping hits.
Expressing his excitement, Shamoon Ismail shared the podcast clip on Instagram, calling it an honor to be recognized by the NYC mayor. “All I can say is that real recognizes real,” he wrote, admitting he was unaware of Mamdani’s long-time appreciation for his work.
Earlier this month, Shamoon sparked curiosity among fans when he teased a “new chapter” in his life. On Sunday, the 33-year-old Islamabad-based artist posted a series of photos on Instagram, showing himself dressed in traditional groom’s attire, adorned with flower garlands, and captioned the post with “Alhamdulillah” and a ring emoji. One of the photos featured a woman in a lavender outfit with her back turned, hinting at his recent marriage.
