FIA rolls out digital system to monitor government employees’ foreign travel

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has digitised the monitoring mechanism for government employees travelling abroad on ex-Pakistan leave, introducing a QR-based verification system to tighten oversight of foreign trips.

Under the new arrangement, officials will receive No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) carrying QR codes. The codes will be scanned at airports, enabling authorities to verify travel permissions electronically.

The automated mechanism is also designed to identify forged, altered or otherwise unauthorised NOCs immediately, sources said.

The system will first be introduced in government institutions falling directly under the FIA’s jurisdiction. It will subsequently be extended to other government departments in phases.

According to sources, the digital system will maintain oversight of officials travelling abroad on ex-Pakistan leave and help prevent misuse of leave granted for specific religious purposes.

Authorities will particularly monitor cases in which employees obtain leave for Hajj or Umrah but allegedly travel onward to other countries.

The move will replace the existing paper-based NOC verification process with electronic checks, allowing officials’ foreign travel to be tracked more efficiently and improving transparency in the approval system.
