ISLAMABAD: Authorities have stepped up security measures in the federal capital, sealing D-Chowk and placing shipping containers at key entry and exit points ahead of planned political demonstrations.
Containers have been positioned along major roads and highways to restrict the movement of protesters towards Islamabad as the government prepares for rallies announced by political groups, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI).
Officials have also planned trenches at several points on routes linking Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the capital. The identified locations include G.T. Road, Chungi No. 26, Pir Wadhai, IGP Road, Aswal Mor and Katti Pahari.
Additional containers have been placed at T-Chowk Rawat, Serena Chowk, Srinagar Highway, Margalla Avenue and Faizabad, according to sources.
The security measures follow a government assessment of routes connecting KP with Islamabad as part of preparations to manage potential protest activity.
Authorities have also decided to install barricades and other physical barriers along major routes leading into the capital from KP to restrict access during the demonstrations.
