NUSHKI: Two police constables were martyred on Tuesday when unidentified armed assailants opened fire on personnel deployed to guard an anti-polio vaccination team in the Killi Jamalabad area of Nushki.
The policemen were providing security to the polio workers when they came under attack during the ongoing vaccination campaign.
Both constables succumbed to their injuries at the scene. They were later identified as Abdul Rauf Mengal, a resident of Deedar, and Muhammad Yasir, son of Dad Muhammad Parkani.
According to sources, the attackers fled the scene after taking away the official weapons belonging to the slain policemen.
The incident spread fear and grief in the Jamalabad area.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the attack and expressed sorrow over the deaths of the two police officials.
Paying tribute to the martyred constables, Naqvi said they lost their lives while carrying out their duty and offered condolences to their bereaved families.
He described the attack on personnel protecting a team involved in safeguarding children’s future as a “heinous and unforgivable act” and called for those responsible to be brought to justice.
