ISLAMABAD: The M-1 Motorway connecting Islamabad and Peshawar will be closed to all traffic from 11pm on September 23, 2026, until further notice, according to a traffic advisory.
Authorities have advised commuters travelling from Islamabad, Rawalpindi and surrounding districts to avoid using the M-1 and defer non-essential journeys.
The closure has been ordered in view of planned political protests and prevailing security concerns in the Islamabad-Rawalpindi area.
Travellers have been urged to plan their routes in advance and comply with directions issued by traffic police and other authorities.
Meanwhile, the M-2 Motorway between Lahore and Islamabad will remain open for all categories of traffic.
Officials have advised motorists to stay updated on traffic conditions before setting out on their journeys.
