ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a temporary facility allowing certain citizens above 18 years of age to obtain a Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) without providing a birth certificate.
The facility will remain available until December 31, 2026, subject to specific eligibility requirements set by NADRA.
Married women
Women aged 18 or above who are married can apply by presenting a computerised marriage certificate issued by the relevant Union Council.
NADRA requires either the applicant’s father or mother, as well as her husband, to be registered in its database and possess a CNIC or National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP).
Applicants must visit a NADRA registration centre along with the marriage certificate and the relevant family members for biometric verification.
If the applicant’s parent or husband has passed away but their record is available in the NADRA database, the application may still be processed. In such cases, the applicant will have to satisfactorily answer questions at the registration centre.
For unmarried women above 18, the requirement concerning a husband does not apply.
Men above 24
The facility also applies to men aged over 24 who have never previously obtained a CNIC.
Such applicants must have at least one parent and one sibling registered with NADRA and holding either a CNIC or NICOP. They are required to visit a NADRA centre accompanied by the registered parent.
NADRA issues warning
NADRA has advised applicants to provide their information carefully during the registration process.
The authority said details entered on the CNIC, including parents’ particulars, date of birth and place of birth, will be recorded on the basis of the information supplied at the time of application and will not subsequently be amended.
The temporary facility is intended to facilitate eligible citizens who have not previously obtained identity documents but lack a birth certificate.
